WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
Pakistani uneducated women have a low socio-economic status compared to literate Pakistani women. Their socio-economic and demographic characteristics have proved their subservient status in the patriarchal society of Pakistan. At Meri Pehchan we believe women need opportunity and encouragement. If a girl can climb mountains, she can do anything positive within her field of work and can be economically free and independent. Skills, capacity building and opportunity can bring a big change.
However, there are a host of structural and socio-cultural barriers that continue to curtail women and girls’ mobility. A highly patriarchal society, regressive social norms and gender stereotypes give rise to discrimination and violence against women and girls. This sewing journey can empower these women. With these Skill-share classes, they explore a wide range of sewing topics, tools, and techniques, from knitting, quilting, and tailoring, to embroidery and crochet. These tailoring classes for beginners or someone who got lots of experience with a needle and thread, can take their skills to the next level with classes in needlework, cross-stitch, textile design, and using a sewing machine, all taught by talented designers, tailors, and crafters.
They can learn to sew with patterns and make clothes, bags, art, and plush toys. Design and make your own textiles. Learn about garment construction by creating cut and sew garments from scratch, and get hands-on experience by completing and sharing your own sewing projects.
